What We Build

Our pods range from compact 10m² home office pods that don’t require a building permit through to 30m² garden studios with full bathroom, kitchenette, and bedroom. Every pod uses TRUECORE steel framing manufactured by BlueScope — the same structural steel system used in residential homes across Australia. The frames are termite-proof, non-combustible, dimensionally stable, and backed by a 50-year structural guarantee.

The most popular configurations we build in Melbourne are home office pods for remote workers, music and art studios with acoustic insulation, teenage retreats with separate entrance, granny flats for ageing parents or rental income, and Airbnb guest pods for properties in areas like the Mornington Peninsula and Daylesford.

Backyard Pod Prices in Melbourne

Our 10m² backyard pods start from $22,990 plus assembly. This is the base kit price for the steel frame structure. Windows, insulation, roofing and electrical are quoted based on your requirements. Assembly on your prepared base takes 1 to 2 days.

Garden studios with bathroom start from $49,990. These larger pods (20-30m²) include plumbing rough-in, full wet area waterproofing, and all the structural engineering documentation your building surveyor needs. The total installed cost for a 25m² garden studio with bathroom and kitchenette typically runs between $65,000 and $90,000 including the concrete base, plumbing connection, and electrical fit-off.

Building Permits and Council Requirements

In Victoria, outbuildings under 10m² generally do not require a building permit provided they are single-storey, non-habitable, and set back at least 1 metre from any boundary. Our standard 10m² pods are designed to meet these criteria.

For larger garden studios and granny flats, a building permit is required. We manage the entire permit process for you, including structural engineering certification to Australian Standards, energy rating reports that meet NCC 2022 7-star requirements for habitable spaces, and all documentation your building surveyor needs to issue the permit. Most Melbourne councils process pod building permits within 10 to 15 business days.

How Our Process Works

We start with a free site visit to measure your backyard, discuss your requirements, and check access for delivery. We then provide a fixed-price quote with no hidden costs — the price we quote is the price you pay.

Once you approve the design, we manufacture your pod at our Melbourne facility. Standard pods are ready within 14 days. Garden studios requiring building permits take approximately 8 weeks including the permit timeline. On delivery day, our team assembles the pod on your prepared base, typically completing the structure in 1 to 2 days. Electrical and plumbing fit-off follows with our licensed trade partners.
